Service Lateral Monitoring

In the aftermath of the CZU Lightning Complex Fire, dozens of structures were burned in the path of the fire in the SLVWD service area.  From past cases of urban/forest fires, it has been learned that service laterals connected to burned structures can potentially have levels of Volatile Organic Contaminants (VOCs) present, including benzene.  In late September to early October, the SLVWD tested service laterals connected to burned structures in the SLVWD service area.  The purpose of service lateral testing is to determine if contamination of service laterals connected to burned structures was present and to formulate a removal and replacement plan based on the sample results.  This document summarizes the results of service lateral sampling.
