CZU Fire - Water Quality Info

VIEW THE UPDATED (10/23/20) MAP - DO NOT DRINK/DO NOT BOIL NOTICE HERE.

BACKGROUND:

Due to the CZU Lightning Complex Fire that started on 8/16/2020, High Density Poly Ethylene (HDPE) mains in the direct line of fire were damaged and melted causing depressurization of the water distribution system. Immediately after discovery, the San Lorenzo Valley Water District (SLVWD) contacted its regulatory agency, the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) who recommended issuing a precautionary Do Not Drink, Do Not Boil (DND-DNB) notice to all affected residents in the depressurized zones.

In preparation of the fire, the SLVWD was able to isolate several areas of the distribution system before some of the HDPE mains were destroyed. Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) are a possible contaminant of the depressurization zone due to the melting of HDPE. All VOC samples collected were analyzed under EPA method 524.2, which includes a screen of 84 different VOCs.

All notices, lab results, and maps will be published on this page.
