Drought Information

UPDATE FALL 2023

The San Lorenzo Valley area received approximately 71 inches of rain in the last water year (Oct. 1, 2022-Sept. 30 2023), about 144% of the Districts historical rainfall average. While the District continues to encourage customers to use water efficiently and implement voluntary water conservation, the Board of Directors in September 2023 has downgraded the District to a Stage 1 water shortage designation. The Stage 1 water shortage includes five components:

  • Outdoor irrigation can occur before 10 a.m. or after 6 p.m. in most situations.
  • Shutoff nozzles are required on hoses.
  • Washing hard or paved surfaces, or filling residential pools is prohibited in most situations.
  • Resturants can only serve water upon request.
  • Hotels and motels must offer an option to forego daily linen laundering.

Here in the San Lorenzo Valley, many years of below-average rainfall combined with the damages sustained from the 2020 CZU Lightning Fire further remind us that we always need to be mindful of our water consumption.

Also, the State Water Resources Control Board has extended the January 2022 executive order banning wasteful water uses until January 2024. This ban applies to all water users including individuals, businesses and public agencies. Please see the list of water waste prohibitions and mandatory restrictions below. As climate change continues to make our future hotter and drier, we must continue to make water conservation a way of life. We appreciate the steps community members have already taken to conserve water here in the San Lorenzo Valley.
