Post-Fire Recovery, Critical Asset Hardening, Vegetation, and Fuels Management Plan

The Post-Fire Recovery, Critical Asset Hardening, Vegetation, and Fuels Management Plan (plan) is intended to address the need for vegetation and fuels management to lessen the presence of unnaturally high fuel loads on District-owned lands and around District-owned assets to reduce the intensity and harmful impacts of wildfires. The plan identifies a suite of recommended projects designed to reduce or maintain the lowered fuel loads, increase fire resiliency, and help reduce wildfire impacts to critical water infrastructure.

The Board of Directors adopted the plan at the June 3, 2021 regularly scheduled Board of Director's meeting.

Critical Water Infrastructure Protection and Wildfire Management Ingress/Egress Improvement Project

The purpose of this project is to reduce or maintain the lowered fuel loads, increase fire resiliency, and help reduce wildfire impacts to critical water infrastructure. The proposed defensible space treatments around water infrastructure would increase defensibility and reduce risk of loss during a wildfire. In the event of a wildfire, critical water infrastructure facilities serving a population of over 26,000 would be protected by the proposed defensible space treatments. The proposed roadside and property boundary fuel reduction adjacent to residential areas would increase defensibility and provide fuel breaks to help facilitate emergency access and suppression actions should a wildfire ignite.

California Cooperative Forest Management Plan

This Multi-Agency Cooperative Forest Management Plan was developed for use in California by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), the United States Forest Service (USFS) and Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) using information from a national joint Forest Stewardship, American Tree Farm System (ATFS), NRCS Planning Process and the California Forest Improvement Act. This management plan template meets management plan requirements for grant agreements and other provisions available through CAL FIRE, USFS, NRCS, and the ATFS.
