EDUCATION GRANT PROGRAM
NOTICE OF AVAILABLE GRANT FUNDING
MISSION STATEMENT:
The Mission of the San Lorenzo Valley
Water District Education Grant Program is to provide
funding for educational and other projects that enhance
the understanding of the San Lorenzo River Watershed
environment or improve the watershed's environmental
health.
INVITATION FOR PROPOSALS:
The San Lorenzo Valley Water District
invites proposals from individuals, students, teachers,
groups, and/or organizations for grant funding. Grant
funding is available for education projects, environmental
restoration and enhancement projects, and resource conservation
projects within the San Lorenzo River Watershed. The
District encourages grant applications for projects
with funding levels at or less than $2,500.00. A portion
of available funds will be set aside for small project
grant applications at or less than $250.00. The San
Lorenzo Valley Water District Education Grant Program
will award grants on a competitive basis.
GENERAL FUNDING GUIDELINES:
The San Lorenzo Valley Water District
will give the highest priority to projects that exhibit
some or all of the following features:
- Education programs for school age children and/or
adults related to the watershed, water resources,
water conservation and impacts on the environment.
- Educational outreach to all watershed residents
and visitors to the area.
- Enhancement of the public's awareness of issues
affecting water resources and water quality within
the San Lorenzo River Watershed.
- A direct and positive impact on the San Lorenzo
River Watershed.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
The San Lorenzo Valley Water District will
give the highest consideration to projects that exhibit
some or all of the following criteria:
- Demonstrates the greatest impact, benefit and yield
to the principles stated in the Mission Statement.
- Provides the greatest benefit to the water resources
and water quality of the San Lorenzo River Watershed.
- Demonstrates the potential for achieving the highest
value with respect to the public interest and/or best
utilization of grant funds.
- Demonstrates future and/or long-term benefits.
LIMITATIONS:
In general, the San Lorenzo Valley Water
District does not award grants for the following:
- Endowments, building campaigns, annual fund appeals
or fund raising events;
- Religious organizations for religious purposes;
- Existing obligations, debt retirement, deficits or
retroactive funding;
- Political or lobbying activities; or
- Hiring grant proposal writers.
APPLICATION PROCEDURES:
The San Lorenzo Valley Water District encourages
brief and concise grant proposals from individuals, students,
teachers, groups, and/or organizations. If you are interested
in submitting a proposal for grant funding, proposals
must adhere to the following general instructions.
All grant proposal applications must be
received at the District Office by 5:00 p.m. on the application
deadline. Late applications will be returned to the applicant.
The District will accept grant proposal applications as
follows:

Grant proposal applications meeting the basic application
procedures and guidelines will be read and evaluated by
the "Education Program Advisory Commission".
The "Education Program Advisory Commission"
will make recommendations to the Board of Directors for
the award of grant funding. The Board of Directors, at
their sole discretion, will decide which grant proposals
to fund and the amounts to be funded for each proposal.
Generally, the Board of Directors will award grants within
six (6) weeks of the proposal application deadline.
Applicants may be contacted for additional
information, documentation and/or clarification. Following
grant award, funds are normally available for disbursement
within twenty-one (21) calendar days. All decisions of
the Board of Directors are final. All applicants will
be notified in writing of the Board's decision.
All grant proposal applications shall contain
the information requested in the Grant Proposal Application
Narrative Guidelines and adhere to the format listed below.
A copy of the Grant Proposal Application Narrative Guidelines
is attached hereto. See Attachment 1.
1) All grant proposal applications must
be received at the San Lorenzo Valley Water District by
5:00 p.m. on the application deadline date.
2) Applications may be delivered by mail,
in person or by messenger.
3) Mail or deliver proposals to:

4) The Grant Proposal Application Narratives
shall not exceed a total of four (4) single side 8-1/2"
x 11" white paper pages with minimum 1-inch margins.
Number all pages.
5) Each proposal shall include a separate
Budget Summary in addition to the four-page Grant Proposal
Application Narrative. The Budget Summary shall not exceed
one (1) single-side 8-1/2" x 11" white paper
pages with minimum 1-inch margins.
6) The Grant Proposal Application Narrative
shall be signed by the designated contact person,
7) Use black type and at least 12 point
font.
8) Do not include any supplemental materials.
9) Use only paper clips to fasten your proposal.
Do not bind or staple your proposal.
10) Incomplete, late, faxed or emailed proposals
will not be considered.
GRANT AWARD ADMINISTRATION:
The administration of grant funds is governed
by the terms and conditions of each award. Within thirty
(30) calendar days of official grant award notification,
each grant recipient will be required to enter a written
grant award agreement. Each grant award agreement shall
specifically identify certain terms and conditions, such
as timing and amount of disbursement(s), that are applicable
to, and become a part of the award.
GRANT REPORTING REQUIREMENTS:
All recipients shall be required to submit
a written narrative summary report documenting the accomplishments
of the project and a financial report demonstrating an
accounting of all expenditures of San Lorenzo Valley Water
District Education Grant Program funds. Said reports shall
be submitted to San Lorenzo Valley Water District within
thirty (30) calendar days of the project completion date.

GRANT PROPOSAL APPLICATION NARRATIVE GUIDELINES
Please provide the information requested
below in the order indicated (limit four (4) pages of
Proposal Narrative and one (1) page Budget Summary). Be
thorough in describing the project for which you are requesting
funding.
1. Name of Individual(s)/Organization Submitting
Proposal: (Provide the full and correct name of the individual(s)/organization
that will receive the grant and be responsible for the
project.)
2. Name, Address, Telephone Number(s) and
Email Address of Contact Person: (Provide the name, address,
telephone number(s) and email address of one (1) contact
individual who carries the proposal/project responsibilities.)
3. Title of Project: (Provide a descriptive
title of your project.)
4. Amount of Funds Requested: (Identify
the total amount of San Lorenzo Valley Water District
Education Grant Program funds you are requesting for your
project.)
5. Briefly describe and summarize your project.
6. Briefly describe why this project is
needed and/or what specific problems your project will
address.
7. Identify the overall goal(s) and primary
objective(s) of your project/program. (Objectives are
the "real world" things you will do as a means
of achieving your goals.)
8. Describe how you will demonstrate achievement
of the stated goal(s) and proposed objective(s).
9. Describe your qualifications to complete
the grant proposal.
10. Identify the key participants and leadership
of your proposed project. If you are a group or organization,
identify the stated purpose of your group or organization.
11. Briefly describe exactly what you are
going to do and how you are going to accomplish your proposed
project. (Provide a clear statement of the work to be
undertaken.)
12. Identify a specific project completion
date.
13. Identify specific timelines and milestones
for project completion and the final project report.
14. Describe your proposed project monitoring
program.
15. Briefly describe how your proposed project
relates to and supports the Education Program Mission
Statement.
16. Identify any other source(s) of funding
for your proposed project. (Include any matching funds,
materials, services, equipment, personnel and/or other
resources.)
17. Budget Summary. (Include a separate
Budget Summary which provides a clear and concise budget
for your proposed project.)
