To safeguard public health by protecting your water supply
from possible contamination, the State of California and
San Lorenzo Valley Water District require installation
of backflow prevention devices where plumbing systems
are exposed to potential contamination or poor water quality.
The
San Lorenzo Valley Water District's Ordinance No. 65 sets
forth requirements for the protection of the public water
system by preventing backflow or backsiphonage.
Backflow
is the flow of water or other liquids, mixtures or substances
under pressure into a potable water supply system's distribution
pipes from any source or sources other than those of the
public water system. Backsiphonage is the flow of water
or other liquids, mixtures or substances into a potable
water system's distribution pipes from any sudden reduction
of pressure in the public water supply system.
Some
examples of where protective devices are required are:
residences with an additional water supply (such as a
well), swimming pools or irrigation systems supplied by
a separate water service, buildings with internal booster
pump systems, buildings with auxiliary water systems,
buildings with a long service line where entry is restricted,
and sewage pumping or treatment plants.
The
installation of this device is the responsibility of the
water customer and shall conform to District specifications.
The District requests that you make an appointment for
an on-site inspection to determine if adequate protection
is presently installed or needed at your property.
To
make this appointment and obtain answers to any questions
you may have please call the District office at (831)
338-2153. Your cooperation in protecting our water supply
is appreciated.
