SLVWD's responsibility for water service extends up to and includes your home's meter box. From the meter on in, ownership, maintenance and repair of the plumbing is the customer's responsibility.
If you discover a cracked or broken pipe in your home, look to see if there is a shut-off valve near the trouble area's source. Some possible locations of shut-off valves are as follows:
- Water Heater - located at the top of your tank.
- Bathroom - look beneath washbasins and on toilet water
- Kitchen - check below the sink for control valves regulating
the hot and cold water supply lines.
- Out side - where your water line enters the home.
If a shut-off valve cannot be located near the source of the trouble, the master valve will need to be turned off. Since this process requires a specialized tool, call our office and we will have our field crew turn the master valve off for you.
If you discover a broken or leaking water main in the street or a broken fire hydrant, call the District at (831) 338-2153 immediately so that the repair crew can be sent out.
